Founded 2016 by Kandis Williams

This installation by Cassandra Press, which was founded by the multidisciplinary artist Kandis Williams, functions as an analog presentation and social space comprising documents, images, and other research obtained through a method that typically involves online search platforms. The thirty-one readers available here encompass a cross-section of ideas framed through a Black femme perspective. The installation also introduces some of the instructors who teach this material as part of the Cassandra Classroom project, and it includes collages of images used in the curriculum. Because Cassandra Press aims to uncover the structures of racism and sexism that proliferate online, in books, and in the media, the complex and sometimes difficult subject matter juxtaposed in this installation—including historical and contemporary visual iconography from advertisements and album covers as well as visual art and literature—brings an awareness to how it continues to circulate in our culture and society.
