In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, enjoy an exclusive pop-up performance by musicians from the critically acclaimed Broadway musical Buena Vista Social Club at the Whitney. Stop by the lobby as Free Friday Night begins to hear the transporting sounds of Cuba brought to life by Renesito Avich, Javier Díaz, Román Diaz, David Oquendo, Marco Paguia, and Gustavo Schartz.
The critically-acclaimed Broadway musical Buena Vista Social Club captivates audiences with the soul-stirring music of Cuba’s golden age, earning ten Tony Award nominations and winning five, including a special Tony Award for the band. Celebrated for redefining what a Broadway musical can look like, the production brings traditional Latin folk music in Spanish to the Broadway stage for the first time, expanding the landscape of American theater and attracting diverse new audiences.
¡Viva! Broadway is dedicated to celebrating and amplifying the rich cultural heritage of the Latiné and Hispanic communities on Broadway. This national audience development program of the Broadway League is committed to engaging and inspiring Latiné and Hispanic audiences through activations, media programming, and partnerships. ¡Viva! Broadway aims to ensure there is rich cultural diversity throughout the Broadway industry now and for future generations.
The Broadway League, founded in 1930, is the national trade association for the Broadway industry representing more than 800 members from nearly 200 national and international markets. Since 1967, The Broadway League has been co-presenting the Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards. Learn more at broadwayleague.com.
